ABOUT SABRINA

Hi, nice to meet you!

Sabrina Argue

My deep love and inspiration for painting started from a very early age from my summers spent fishing, canoeing, and making memories in the southern Canadian shield of Ontario’s cottage country. I can still remember being five years old and visiting for the first time the small rustic island that my family just bought; one of the first things I did was sit on a rock and paint a rather simple tree on a small canvas with my dollar store paint kit. Over the following summers, as my dad worked to build our small log family cabin, I and my sister would set up an easel on the rocks or, when it was finally built, on the deck and paint the landscape in front of us.

Self-taught, a lot of how I learned to paint came from studying the works of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, and I developed my own unique style from there. While I also enjoy creating life-like pencil portraits, painting landscapes is my first love and came natural to me due to my exposure to the outdoors.

It has been a gift to experience the peaceful solitude of the Ontario wilderness, when all you can hear is the wind rustling through the towering pine trees and the call of a loon in the distance, or even seeing the magnificent reflection of a starry sky on the still surface of a lake. However, in addition to the Ontario landscape, many of my paintings are also inspired by the times I’ve spent down in southern United States, particularly Florida. The fresh and warm saltwater air, the calming sound of the ceaseless waves crashing on the beach, and the tranquil image of sailboats floating in the distance fill my mind as I paint.

Each painting I create is inspired by a place I’ve visited and made memories, and it is always my hope to realistically capture the magnificent beauty of creation so that those who view my art can experience a piece of it too.

Along with art, my other love is music. Since age ten, I’ve been touring around as lead singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist for my family’s country-rock band, The Argues.
